Do your youngsters need kids hiking boots or good running shoes?

Their feet grow quickly and do you really need to invest in kids hiking boots? That all depends on what kind of trails you're going to encounter.

If you stick to well groomed trails and pathways a good sturdy pair of running shoes is all they need.

But if your kids are going backpacking with you or hiking along less groomed trails I would suggest investing in some hiking boots for them.

Because their feet are still growing make sure they have ample wiggle room in the toe area. Wearing a thick pair of socks will cut down on the wiggle room and still give them growing space.

They need good ankle support.

Look for waterproof boots too.

Kids find water, and their boots will get wet but you want their feet to stay dry.

There are lots of companies that make hiking boots in smaller sizes and most outdoor stores will carry them. Call ahead to make sure or check on-line. Each design or make will fit differently so let them have fun trying them on to get the best fit.
